DMD Kick-Off Week: Day 3 - Breaking the Diamond: Deconstruction and Abstraction Workshop

During Mike's presentation, we took part in activities to help us understand that the way we may think and visualise things are completely different to how others may see those same things.

The first activity began by Jed explaining an image that we needed to draw however we couldn't see the image and Jed wasn't able to tell us what the image was. We soon discovered that it was a diamond, but this exercise really helped me understand that it is difficult for others to visualise what you are thinking.


Diamond

Mike presented thirty words on the board that we had to associate with another word. We then drew some of the things we associated and photoshopped them into a poster.



Word Association

We created a poster advertising an exhibition using the drawings we had drawn from our word association words and using only CMYK colours. In photoshop, I imported the picture of my drawings which I then edited. I removed the background and other images that I didn't need using the magic wand tool and increased the level of contrast to make them stand out. This poster used a lot of layers which we grouped as the panel became confusing.

Unity Project 4: Ball platformer game

Finished game displayed in the scene view. Scene view Assets Uses Rigidbody so that the ball can use physics (Gravity) therefore it doesn't fall through the ground. Reflective Post

On balance I believe this project was successful in telling a story through gameplay, asset design and the audio used. I created a successful platformer that allows the player to walk, jump, defend and collect items. On reflection there were elements that due to time constraints I wasn't able to implement and therefore I need to work on my time management skills. Throughout this project I have learnt that I need to improve coding in C#. I have realised that when writing code I am not using the most efficient or "cleanest" statements. For example when collected items in my script, I wrote ten if statements for each heart collected. Although this worked and was simple to understand, in future I would attempt to use a loop and array to run through each statement for each count number as this would save me time overall. Unfortunately due to my limited coding knowledge there were a few aspects of the game that I couldn't get to work. This included a health bar/hurt bar

[Research] Traditional Poster Design (4CTA1214)

As you can see from the superman poster, there are only four main colours used which includes red, blue, yellow and brown. All elements are filled in with block colours with no shading which was a common colour theme for traditional posters of this kind. This poster may have been used to advertise a new Superman comic or movie depending on the year it was created. The expression on the characters face fits the title shown on the poster explaining that he is returning. This poster advertised Coca Cola, and looks as though this specific poster was used in the USA - due to the currency used. The whole aim of the poster is to incorporate this drink into working peoples daily lives. This is seen by the slogan, 'Work refreshed' and the small graphics on the bottom right of the poster.
