ACE Assessment Centre: 1500-Word Report & Reflection

This report will include a reflection of my experience, feedback and general outcomes from the project for the purpose of improving my careers skills. Specifically, when applying for future graduate employment and internship opportunities where attending an assessment centre may be a requirement during the application process.  An assessment centre simulation was organised at Watford FC where assessors provided individuals with feedback collected from their observations during each activity. All participants were briefed about the three exercises needed to be completed at the centre.  During the interview exercise, I was asked a series of questions relating to the Creative Technologist position advertised at Ogilvy. I received the following feedback, “Positive Engaging, Smiling approach. Came across as confident. Evidence of prototyping knowledge on current course. Able to reflect on what she’d do differently next time – choice of technology as well as role distributi...

General Curriculum Vitae

This is my general CV that I would use to apply to design jobs/internships. I am currently working on an infographic CV that I can show alongside my general CV to show employers my design skills.

Cover Letter - Creative Technologist Ogilvy

Image
I have written a cover letter to Ogilvy for their Creative Technologist position. While writing this cover letter, I followed a cover letter example guide taken from careers and made sure that I tried to meet everything listed on their cover letter checklist. ACE Assessment Centre: Group Activity & Feedback

Image
Our group exercise went really well! We were briefed by Ogilvy to create a solution to attract already-existing and new customers to the Galleria in Hatfield.  We had forty minutes in total where we spent five minutes re-reading the brief and brainstorming our own ideas while we spent twenty-five minutes discussing our ideas with the group. Ten minutes were spent explaining our idea to the members at Ogilvy. Seetal used her phone as a stopwatch so that we didn't go over the time provided. In our group we came up with the idea of creating a Galleria app to solve this problem. After searching on the app store we realised that an app for the Galleria doesn't already exist however the Galleria does already have a website but it isn't very informative. Therefore we came up with ideas for content and we discussed adding events which will be able to attract customers.  Mel came up with the idea of a sporting event as there are a lot of sportswear outlets in the Ga...

ACE Assessment Centre: Presentation & Feedback

Image
I presented my instant coffee packaging design presentation which went well. My whole presentation took under 5 minutes however I don't feel like I was under by a large amount. When I was practicing my presentation I was averaging at 4:40, 5:00 and 5:10 and therefore I must have been talking faster than I had practiced due to being nervous. As there was no sense of time in the box, it was difficult to judge when the allocated amount of time was reached and therefore preferred to be under the time allocated in this situation rather than be stopped and unable to deliver all of my content/presentation. I brought extra assets to aid my presentation. I printed off my mood boards twice (one copy for the assessor and another copy for everyone else) and displayed a physical jar mockup. I used a presentation clicker for my presentation as this meant that I didn't have to lean over my laptop to change the slides. This also meant that I was able to focus more on what I was saying rath...

ACE Assessment Centre: Interview & Feedback

Image
The interview exercise was the first activity that my group had to complete at the assessment centre. I found this exercise the most challenging as I struggled to explain situations where the question related to a scenario that has happened previously. Although I practised using the STAR technique the day before my interview, I wasn't able to easily use this during the interview. I didn't relate the company to the answers I gave during the interview and felt unprepared. I found it difficult to come up with a question to ask the interviewer and made the mistake of asking about Ogilvy's design process due to being nervous. On reflection, I could have given myself more time to practice answering interview questions as I always struggle with interviews.

ACE Assessment Centre: Arriving at Watford

Image
We met at forum at 8:30 to take the coach at 9:00 as two coaches were stuck at Welham Green and London Colney we decided to share the bus with the Engineering students who were also participating in the activities in the assessment centre.  On the coach with Ollie When we arrived at Watford stadium we were taken to the Sir Elton John suite where we were briefed for the day.   This was the view of the stadium from the Sir Elton John suite. Sophie briefed us on our assessment centre day, activities and feedback and how to understand the grid system on the printouts that were given. I was in group 31 which meant that I had the interview exercise from 10:00 - 11:00 in the gallery while the rest of my class in group 30 had the presentation exercise. From 11:00 - 12:00 I had the presentation exercise in box 10, then at 12:00 - 13:00 I joined the rest of my class where both groups had to participate in the group exercise in box FX Pro and ...

Creative Arts Application Form

Image
I filled in the creative arts application form which I tailored specifically towards Ogilvy's creative technologist job role. For the last questions on the application form, I found thinking of situations and scenarios quite difficult.

ACE Interview Preparation: Checklist & Questions

Image
To help prepare for my interview, I visited Careers and Employment and took their interview checklist. Some of the sections don't really apply to being at the assessment centre however I practiced answering questions and thinking of situations that I have been in my professional and education career where I have used the key skills mentioned in the job description. From looking at Ogilvy's creative technologist job description, I made some notes on what key skills an employer would want me to expand upon in an interview. I also thought of scenarios and answered practice questions using the STAR technique. I made an account on uh.interviewstream.com and looked through some pre-made questions. ACE Presentation: Slides

Image
These are my final slides that I am going to present on Tuesday. They include my design process, research and my final product. I tried to make my slides as visual as possible with minimal text so that the audience would be able to focus more on what I am saying rather than reading text off of a slide. The visuals are designed to support what I am saying rather than being the main focus of the presentation.

ACE Presentation Preparation: Final Packaging Design

Image
This was my first attempt at creating the packaging for the instant coffee range. My concept included using solid shapes and bright bold colours which is commonly used in abstract urban art. The shapes were meant to represent a night scene and the rectangles were meant to represent tall buildings as urban individuals commonly live in busy cities. The circles represented the moon and stars in the scene. The colours of the building were specifically chosen being these colours are commonly found in urban art. These colours are lighter in the foreground and darker in the background to show depth. I decided to not use this idea as the label overall was too busy and drew your attention away from the logo which is the most important part. I settled on the idea of having a real image in the background of the label instead of solid shapes. I specifically decided on a brick wall as this still represented the city as you would usually find a brick wall on a building. I changed the hue of t...

ACE Group Activity & Presentation Preparation: Giving a Presentation

Image
On Monday, Jo gave us a presentation on presenting at the assessment centre. She explained what the assessors will be looking for when working in a group situation and that it's important to listen and build on other peoples ideas during the group activity. There are specific behaviours that we need to avoid when presenting and working in a team that could negatively affect our grades and our group performance - the assessors will look for our overall engagement on the day.

ACE Presentation Preparation: Packaging Logo & Colour Palette

Image
My Instant Coffee range is named, Instant "Happbeanness" which is a play on words for Happiness and incorporates the word bean for coffee bean.  The concept behind this name is due to coffee being able to re-energise you.  Therefore with instant coffee, because of how fast it is to make, this will grant you instant happiness.  In my opinion, this name is fun and fits the target audience of young urban consumers. I have created this logo for the packaging ideas part for the Instant coffee range. Using Key Lime (#E4EA8C) for the yellowy-green colour This logo will come in different colours e.g. the green space will be blue etc. for different favours/blends of coffee creating a sense of multiple different types of packaging for this coffee range. This is due to the previous research I conducted on Pinterest, where urban art commonly used bright, bold colours and had an abstract feel. From my instant coffee survey participants that lived in the city chos...
