Interactive Media: - Any type of media that responds to user input.

There are many different types of interactive media, each different type are appealing in their own way.

1. Games - Directly involves the user by allowing them to play through different levels and/or a story line to complete the main goal stated at the beginning of the game. The game itself allows the gamer to make their own choices throughout to achieve this goal and are able to navigate the character using a controller.

Games are appealing as they are visually exciting. The graphics/sounds can be life like and extremely imaginative at the same time allowing the gamer to be drawn into the game. They allow you to play and make choices in an alternative reality that you would not be able to make in the real world.

2. Apps - Mobile apps are extremely interactive. They allow a user to search for information, edit photos/videos, play games, listen to music and/or post on social media and are very useful.

Apps are appealing as they can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have a mobile device. Some apps are quite limiting as they require an internet connection to be used however some do not have this limitation. To use an app, the user has actually click on specific features, already making the app interactive. Moreover, the clear layout/design of specific apps also make apps appealing as they make the user want to use the application more than the web version of the app (if the web version existed before the application) especially if using the app is quicker than using a PC.

3. Application Software - Referring to software found on all devices. This can include programs such as: Microsoft Office or the Adobe Suite. All application software is interactive as the user is inputting/editing information usually to complete a specific task.

The amount of options/tools included in application software may make the software more appealing compared to the mobile app version as there will be more opportunities to customise certain aspects of the software. Mobiles cannot handle too many options and can be quite basic as the app may run slowly or have many errors. Moreover, the app itself might take up too much space on a mobile device but is find on an alternative device.

4. Interactive Video - Videos such as live streams allows an audience to influence the main video being streamed by sending comments in real time to the creator. This makes the video interactive as the topic/content of the video might be changed due to the opinion of a large audience.

Interactive Videos are appealing as they give an audience an opinion in real time and allow them to be part of the actual video (e.g. being mentioned). Immediate feedback can also be given to the creator allowing them to change the content of the video if a large majority of the audience are not happy with the video topic.

5. Virtual Reality - Similar to games the gamer is involved directly with the game making the virtual reality interactive. More so in virtual reality it may seem as though the gamer is actually in that universe as they have to physically move to control the character.

Virtual Reality is appealing as it is a new concept that has only recently been developed and advertised. People want to try something new compared to the conventional controlled game played on a console with a controller. The game becomes more exciting if it truly feels as though you're there and the almost 3D graphics and sounds make the game appealing.

6. Social Media - This type of media is incredibly interactive as it allows users to make a profile about themselves and include images, videos and posts to their specific page. It is interactive and appealing as the user can add people that they know in real life, providing that they have joined the same social media site, to give them access to view their page and vise-versa. This directly brings people from the physical world to the virtual world and allows them to upload content for a chosen audience to view.
