DMD KickOff Week: Day 4 - Group Presentations

Image
We presented our projects to the Digital Media Design students which went well. I enjoyed working in my group as everyone was assigned a specific task. Although Danielle and Simon weren't able to attend the presentations, we were told with plenty of notice so that we wouldn't have to rely on them being there. We shared out the amount of speaking on Thursday morning in preparation for the presentation and each member that attended spoke about what their involvement in the project was. Tyriq - Researched open data and user interfaces from other shopping apps Danielle - Researched the health risks of air pollution and exploitation of workers Daphne - Helped to create wireframes of the interface on my balsamiq & created a banner for the app Mark - Created the logo and helped to brainstorm ideas Simon - Worked on a digital MockUp of the wireframes using Illustrator My involvement: I lead the group by organising and delegating tasks I helped Daphne cre

DMD Kick-Off Week: Day 3 - Breaking the Diamond: Deconstruction and Abstraction Workshop

Image
During Mike's presentation, we took part in activities to help us understand that the way we may think and visualise things are completely different to how others may see those same things. The first activity began by Jed explaining an image that we needed to draw however we couldn't see the image and Jed wasn't able to tell us what the image was. We soon discovered that it was a diamond, but this exercise really helped me understand that it is difficult for others to visualise what you are thinking. Diamond Mike presented thirty words on the board that we had to associate with another word. We then drew some of the things we associated and photoshopped them into a poster. Word Association We created a poster advertising an exhibition using the drawings we had drawn from our word association words and using only CMYK colours. In photoshop, I imported the picture of my drawings which I then edited. I removed the background and other images that I di

DMD KickOff Week: Day 2 - Anthropogenic Design Workshop

Image
During Julian's workshop on Anthropogenic Design , three sub-themes were touched on: Critical, Speculative and Open Design Expanded Interface Design Bringing the backend forward We spoke about environmental problems how using our phones to search a webpage on Google can create a negative impact on the environment. It was explained that every time we search or continue to keep a tab open, this uses a Google Server which produces a large amount of heat and high electricity usage. We discussed where phone materials are sourced and how employees are poorly treated in other countries collecting these minerals. We brainstormed phone sensors and environmental/social issues and how we could combine these two factors to make a phone app to solve problems. Using Open data we discovered the amount of pollution in Central London was very high and wanted to decrease humans exposure to air pollution by diverting them through back roads/footpaths instead of using the pavements near mai

Our idea Based around teenagers and their need for choice and originality in clothing and fashion. So we proposed an online store on a mobile app (or website) that enabled teenagers to be able to customise clothes, shoes, and accessories from their colour, size, motif, laces, sole etc. that they can purchase through our app/website. DMD Introduction Session - Team Building

Image
On Tuesday 9th, we had our first session where we interacted with new students that have joined our course and year group. We met some of the international students in our year and later met with the new level 4 students. Level 5 We were put into groups where we thought of problems, media, technology, formats and audiences on post-it notes which we stuck on the wall. Another group then picked a post-it of each category and gave it to our group to create an idea from it. E.g. A problem we could solve.
