Landing Page Implementation & Design Decisions

Image
Compared to my mockup, major design decisions have been made to the landing page. (Above are my initial mockups for the landing page, own images) The final landing page: As you can see, there were a lot of design decisions that were made that were not included or were modified on the original mockup.  1) Header The second header image was replaced after feedback was received in tutorials. Both tutors agreed that the second image did not 'fit' with the other images I had chosen. They mentioned that it looked 'stocky'/false due to the number of people around the computer as this was not realistic for a training session and that the image could give a false representation of the company size. Therefore, this image was changed to a man presenting to a group as this was more appropriate for the header message, "Bespoke Training Programmes tailored to your companies risk". The initial image implied an informal meeting whereas the f...

Documentation Decisions

Once I began to edit the Bootstrap template, I re-considered my documentation strategy and the best way to explain my design decisions. I realised that I was making decisions as I was coding and these decisions changed regularly depending on my thoughts and the clients. Therefore instead of documenting each small decision, I have decided to compare each finished website page with my inital Adobe XD mockup pages. The reason I have decided to do this is so that you can visually see the final major design decisions that were agreed with the client.

Voiceover Recording

Matt Burrows (studies BSc Sound Design Technology at the University of Hertfordshire) recorded Alfonsina Gattuso (Director of Ramsay Safety Solutions) reading the following script for a new 'Welcome Video' that I am going to create for the website. "Welcome to Ramsay Safety Solutions Limited. Health and Safety professionals supporting small to medium-sized enterprises operating in many industries including Logistics, Construction, Manufacturing, Hospitality and Care Organisations.  We make life easier for our clients by offering realistic, practical advice and solutions.  Our range of services includes audits, policy formation, risk assessments and much more to discuss your needs, call us now." I noticed that the original video was posted in 2012 and therefore had depreciated in quality (360p) and wasn't full-width. As both directors wanted to include this video, to fit with the high quality of the website, and have decided to redo this video. I...

Invision Prototype & Communicative Decisions

I decided to create a prototype on InVision as this would make the mockups easier to visualise as a complete website for the managing director. We agreed that any small changes that need to be made to pages e.g. spelling errors, title changes etc. should be added as a comment on the InVision prototype and any large changes e.g. paragraph text changes, image changes should be e-mailed instead. We decided to do this because any small changes may be lost in an e-mail thread and large changes will be easier to read via e-mail. My prototype can be found at: https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/E9R1NV7HUYV#/screens/352607769

Other Pages Mockup & Design Decisions

Image
Using Adobe XD, I edited the landing page slightly to incorporate the different slider headings and changed the fonts to match the reworked logo. I used Viga for the main headings/titles and Assistant for the paragraph text and information. I came to this design decision because I felt that Viga was very unique and this would stand out if this font is used as a header font. Moreover if Viga was used for the paragraph text this may become difficult to read and therefore I used Assistant for this as this font was clear. I have used grey boxes to represent placeholder images as these images haven't be discussed with Calogero. *All mockup images are my own and were created in 2019 using Adobe XD

Modified Landing Page Mockup

I took onboard Calogero's feedback and modified the mockup to include other sections and alterations to text and images. It was important that I followed this feedback so that Calogero could gain a better picture of what the website would look like and see changes made. (Own Image, 2019)
