Independent Learning Journey: Student Representative & Proctoring

Image
I was elected to be a student representative last year and have continued this into my second year. My main responsibility is to gain the opinions and feedback from students in my year group about lectures, lecturers, events and the course in general for me to mention in student representative meetings. I received a stamp for being a student rep. Stamp 10 I was also selected to be a proctor this year due to achieving first-class grades during first year. This allows me to help first years with their assignments and answer any general questions they have. I received a stamp for being a proctor. Stamp 11

Independent Learning Journey: Bootcamp

Image
I agreed to speak about my freelance experience so far at the business start-up boot camp. I had a very strange freelance experience and therefore my enterprise advisor Andre, thought that this would be a good story to tell to other students. I also thought that speaking about my experience may help other students and improve my public speaking. I received a stamp for speaking at this event. Stamp 12

Transitioning: Over-the-Shoulder Zoom

Anja and I discussed the transition from the Mum looking at the screen to the scrolling of the webpage. We first discussed zooming into the back of the Mum's head, then making this disappear to reveal the page she was looking at however I suggested that this looked unnatural. Another option was to have the screen tilted at an angel and somehow have the screen zoom into the computer screen however we couldn't think of a way to do this smoothly. I suggested flashing the frame of the Mum looking at the screen for a few seconds then showing the computer screen zoomed in however this also seemed unnatural. Anja and I compromised and added both of our ideas together to create a transition where the Mum moves to the side will zooming in, however we could still see the screen. We used placeholder images to show this transition. We used the Ocado logo as a placeholder for the Mums's head and a screenshot of the Ocado website as a placeholder for the computer screen.

Transitioning: Screen Wipe

Image
A key transition (a wipe transition from right to left) is used to transition three frames in our motion graphic. While adding the the 'wipe' transition we realised that this wasn't as smooth as we would have liked. We couldn't work out as to why this transition was lagging. Adding effects such as, 'Ease In, Ease Out' helped somewhat however this didn't solve the problem completely. Anja set the Motion Blur Switch for the image and tried speeding up the transition where we found out that the optimal duration was 1.5 seconds.

Motion Graphic: Aspect Ratio

Image
After checking the brief, in the specification it mentions that our aspect ratio needed to be 4:5 with a minimum of 600px width. When looking at the Aspect Ratio guide we saw that this size was optimal for both Facebook and Instagram. This was also mentioned when using the creative hub to create a MockUp of our ad. Therefore we decided that our canvas would have a 1280px width and 1600px height (4:5 aspect ratio) which met the brief specifications. When using After Affects there wasn't a pre-set option that allowed you to select the aspect ratio to 4:5 and therefore had to calculate the pixel height width within the requirements of a 600px minimum width.

Storyboard: Feedback from Ocado

Image
We discussed our storyboard and concept with Ocado. They liked our idea and liked the family and cultural aspect of our motion graphic. They suggested keeping our animations simple. We assured them we would stick to this minimalistic style adding less detail to certain frames and perhaps crop the starting scenes so that the legs wouldn't be shown. They also suggested to have less emphasis on the technology in our storyboard (computer screen and checkout button frames) and focus more on the emotional aspect of our story so that individuals watching our advert would be left with a smile. They also mentioned that we had used a good example of juxtaposition as we had included traditional family values and dishes compared with the modern aspect of technology.

ACE Assessment Centre: 1500-Word Report & Reflection

This report will include a reflection of my experience, feedback and general outcomes from the project for the purpose of improving my careers skills. Specifically, when applying for future graduate employment and internship opportunities where attending an assessment centre may be a requirement during the application process.  An assessment centre simulation was organised at Watford FC where assessors provided individuals with feedback collected from their observations during each activity. All participants were briefed about the three exercises needed to be completed at the centre.  During the interview exercise, I was asked a series of questions relating to the Creative Technologist position advertised at Ogilvy. I received the following feedback, “Positive Engaging, Smiling approach. Came across as confident. Evidence of prototyping knowledge on current course. Able to reflect on what she’d do differently next time – choice of technology as well as role distributi...
