Logo Design

Image
I specifically wanted my logo to be an SG as these are my initials. Therefore I attempted to a few different designs until I found the one that I liked. For this post, I have put my logos on blackgrounds so that they are visible. This was my original logo however I wanted to change this slightly as I feel as though it didn't fit the feel of my website and was too simple. When creating this logo, I took into consideration my background and the type of style I wanted to go for. I was inspired by my favourite game FEZ as I really like what they did with the title of the game. If you look at their logo closely you can see the logo from both angles and really liked this effect. I decided to put the S and the G at different angles as it resembles a butterfly. When you see my logo from a different angle it looks as though a butterfly is flapping it's wings which I believe fits well with my background. I played around with the design of my previous...

Typeface

I wanted my website to have a font that fits the look and feel of the site and therefore decided on the font 'monda'. This is the same font I used in my mockups to gain a better idea of what the font will look like on my actual website. Monda is a sans-serif font designed by Vernon Adams, I decided to choose this font because I like the clarity of the characters, which is important because if the font isn't clear this could make my portfolio difficult to read. Furthermore, I like this font as it has a robotic but modern feel due to the letters being rounded ever so slightly but not enough to make this font 'cute' which I feel is appropriate for the use of a portfolio. This font family is free to use across the internet and therefore can be used for commercial use. I selected this font from the google fonts website and embedded this into my code by using the code provided. I edited my CSS so that all the font used in the body of my website would be in ...

Reflection: Teamwork Practices

Image
Working with Anja on this project was a good decision as we produced a motion graphic of a high standard. We delegated roles where I would create the illustrations for our motion graphic and Anja would put this together in After Effects. This worked well due to my previous experience using Adobe Illustrator in my part-time employment and previously taking a short course in this software in 2017. Anja had practised using Unity during the summer and therefore thought he may be more familiar with moving assets and coding in this environment if necessary. In future, we could have improved this arrangement by learning about Adobe After Effects prior to starting the project by using video tutorials/online courses to learn this software. This would have meant having fewer problems with transitions, completing the project faster and meant that we could have included more complex animations/transitions. Anja and I communicated using Slack and face-to-face communication. We discussed whe...

Invision: Digital Wireframing

Image
I decided to create a basic digital wireframe that shows the structure of the final design that I wanted to aim for. I thought about each aspect carefully so that I could incorporate many different skills and languages into my website. I would like my website to be one-page single scrolling with a parallax feel. Therefore, when using my navigation bar I wanted to be able to click on a subject and the page to automatically scroll to that section of the website.  I would like my landing page to have a 3D sculpted model of me or have it in the about section of the website and I thought this might be a cool feature to add. Having my logo and who I am overlaid on this would be good as it would tell people who I am straight away. You are able to view this wireframe at:  https://projects.invisionapp.com/freehand/document/8VA7azTC6

Brainstorming: Sketched Wireframe Mockups

Using ideas from my sketches, I decided to draw some ideas using a Wireframe approach.

Motion Graphic: Presentation & Motion Graphic Feedback

Image
Each group received one to one feedback on their motion graphic projects. Our feedback was very positive, the team mentioned that our ad was a nice emotive story and liked the fact our motion graphic was themed around family which revolved around a story - as other groups were missing this aspect.  They added that it was difficult to tell a story in a 10 - 20 second motion graphic and taking all factors into consideration we did well to convey our message across to our audience however a strong emotional connection was missing. Therefore they suggested that the shelf screen could be edited slightly to have more emphasis on the Grandma and her recipe. We explained that due to time constraints it would be difficult to spend more time on this frame and therefore the design team suggested that changing the scene slightly will help to make it more emotional. They suggested that the Grandma could be in the centre of the frame making her the main focus of the scene and change...

Motion Graphic: Presentation Slides

Image
Anja and I introduced ourselves to Ocado's design team. During this slide Anja explained our concept and the story about the girl wanting the same meal her Grandma made her. I then explained that our concept is based on the idea of family mixed with tradition as they are having a traditional Italian meal (Grandmas recipe) and a modern touch as they are using technology to order the ingredients from Ocado. We refreshed Ocado on our storyboard as they had already seen it previously. Therefore we didn't go into too much detail however Anja explained that our storyboard illustrates the story and includes the transitions we wanted to use. I explained that we had another storyboard prior to this version that included some subtle differences for example, more text. We showed our motion graphic which we needed to replay as the sound was delayed the first time round. We showed the ad mockups that were created in the creative hub by Facebook. I explained that...
