Portfolio Site Lecture: Print to Screen

Image
Presently, we are limiting our design to the screen size and are heading towards more print looking websites. However we don't have to be limited on the screen size We could create side scroller websites which was predominately created in the 90's.  Using AR this enables the viewer to go into our websites. Parallax designs gives us a wider view of space. Using Rich Media can be used to make our portfolio site more exciting: Audio Video/YouTube Videos Animation Visuals Image Galleries  Facebook components Google map components Lead capture - collecting information Contact easily using click to call components  We went over the design process for our website When developing our website we can use the following methods: Sketching - express and elaborating our ideas. Formalise our sketches creating a digital sketch. Concepts sketches for planning. Storyboards - user storyboard for interface design. Create a user persona and how the user will use ...

Portfolio Site: Researching Parallax Websites

Image
As I would like to add a parallax feature to the website, I wanted to gain inspiration from other websites that have taken this approach. When looking at this blog post from Alex Black at Creativebloq.com, I looked at the websites listed.  Bear Grylls I loved Bear Grylls' site due to it's interactivity as the user is immediately enagaed with the content of the site. When you first arrive at his landing page instead of scrolling down, you are almost scrolling into the image of the mountains. Once you have scrolled all the way, a video of his adventures automatically starts playing in the background with is great! The only problem with this is that it distracts you from the written content however it's very visually appealing. The website also doesn't include a single scrolling page where the navigation bar is anchors to different parts of the page which is one of the main features I want to include in my website. This site takes a while to load and go back to pa...

Portfolio Project: Interface Design Presentation

Image
Julian presented a presentation on Interface Design. There are different formats from desktop to mobile and therefore we should work towards making our web app responsive for both mobile and desktop. Everything has a mobile focus and our average smartphone usage is different for each individual.  We use big data to find out information on our target audience which can give us unusual results. Surveys can become obfuscated due to bias in the way we write our survey questions, and enough individuals have to do the survey in order to get a true response. When creating our portfolio we have to consider who our target audience is. Our interface for our portfolio will be different depending on the country the company is from. Each website from different countries have their own standardised interface. If we want our portfolio to be for UK design companies, they are more interested in big ideas and concepts whereas German companies are more interested in the technicality of a w...

ACE Group Activity & Presentation Preparation: Giving a Presentation

Image
On Monday, Jo gave us a presentation on presenting at the assessment centre. She explained what the assessors will be looking for when working in a group situation and that it's important to listen and build on other peoples ideas during the group activity. There are specific behaviours that we need to avoid when presenting and working in a team that could negatively affect our grades and our group performance - the assessors will look for our overall engagement on the day.

Ocado Live Brief: Storyboarding & Discussion

Image
Anja decided to start working on our storyboard. While drawing he noticed some adjustments that could be made to our storyboard that would mean that our concept could still be delivered in the same way but by using less frames making our animation smoother. We decided against making our motion graphic complex and opted for a minimalistic style as we want to get our message across clearly. Once completed he sent the storyboard to me so that we could discuss it further and to make sure we were still meeting the brief requirements. Our discussion about the storyboard

Ocado Live Brief: Finalising Concept & Structuring Storyboard

Image
After brainstorming our ideas on Slack, we came up loosely with a concept. On Monday, we discussed this concept with Mikki and were given feedback. She liked our idea and found it cute, she mentioned that we needed to ensure that our motion graphic doesn't exceed 20 seconds as our concept was quite detailed. She explained that this was positive rather than a negative because it is easier to shorten a bigger idea than trying to expand on a smaller idea. She suggested that our next step was to create a storyboard to help us finalise our concept. This was helpful as we had a rough idea of what we wanted to include in our motion graphic however we hadn't properly structured our concept. On Tuesday, Anja and I discussed our concept at great length and visually finalised our concept. Our final concept A mother asks her daughter what she would like from Ocado as she is doing her online grocery shop. Her daughter replies saying that she would like the meal that her Grandma had m...
